What are the best gas mileage / fuel economy trucks , vans , station wagons, cars available in california.

Some diesel vehicle do not seem to be allowed in California for some reason ( small displacement diesel cars , trucks or vans ).

What are the highest gas / fuel milage MPG vehicles available in california.
I am not interested in a new vehicle unless it is by far the highest mpg. I am not interested in safety JUST miles per gallon. And I am not really interested in hybrid.
I really want a used vehicle that gets excelent fuel economy.

hopefully the best in each and every catagorie large truck ,small truck ,van ,station wagon , car , highway legal motorcycle/scooter/vespa, other?

used cars with low mileage
Do you think I can get a $15,000 car for $11,000 with good negotiation skills?

Now for those of you laughing at me, how much should I push for the dealer to lower the price. I’m not sure if I’ll get a new car or a low mileage certified used car.

TRY THIS…………………

End of month is a great time to BUY your new car, but it is NOT the best time to make your first dealership visit. Salesmen do try harder to make sales at the end of the month, which is about the last five days of the calendar month.

In addition to the end of the month, there are better and worse times of the year to buy. Best time of the year to buy is the end of December, in most dealerships. Dealerships try to make specific quotas for end of month AND end of calendar year, and it is not a popular time to buy, so sales can slump seriously and they will try harder to make a sale, which means a better bargain. If you shy away from buying in the winter because of bad weather, think again: bad weather is when you WANT to be in the car, testing it’s foul weather capabilities.

Other good times of year to buy are end of August and end of September because the old models are taking up space on the dealership property, and they want to make room for the new models to come in. If your heart is not set on a brand new model, this is an excellent time to buy a perfectly good new car that happens to have been manufactured a few months earlier.

There is a very important BUT to this end of month advice: Do NOT make your very first visit to the dealership at the end of the month. Go to the dealership at the beginning or middle of the month, test drive the cars, get some info, then go home and give yourself two to three weeks to get the best financing. THEN go back at month’s end armed with full information and a buying plan. Give yourself a day or two extra in case the first dealership doesn’t work out and you need to go to another one. This is a big purchase, don’t try to do it all in an afternoon!

Buying a sporty car often means putting up with less passenger space, a smaller trunk and so-so gas mileage – but…

consumer reports used cars gas mileage
What is a good first car?

It has to:
1. be safe
2. be reliable
3. get good gas mileage
4. be pretty cheap (less than $8000)

I was thinking about a used toyota corolla or honda civic but when I looked at consumer reports, the safe corollas are 2003 or later and the safer/reliable civics are 2001/2002 or later which brings up the cost because the safer ones are newer.

I would be happy with a much older car that is safe, reliable, cheap and gets good gas mileage (meaning that it has to be pretty small because hybrids are not cheap). Do you have any in mind?

Yu can get a 2003 Corolla VE for 8000.00. Before 2003 the corolla was still saf as in 2002 was #2 in class in safety as well as number 1 in slaaes in world as has been for years. The Civic has never come close to Toyota in safety as people think because the cost of fixing if in accident matters. The toyotas have a system which since 1997 is used and yes is expensive in accident but you will walk away and that is what insurance is for. A receptionist where I worked was hithead on at 65MPH on New Years eve by drunk driver and only had broken legs where as HP said if in any other car would have easily been killed nd this was 7 years ago.

used cars with low mileage
buying a used car – go for low mileage or low age?

I’m looking to buy a used car and looking at a couple, the same make/model and around the same price
one is 5 years old with 33,000 on the clock, the other is 3 years old with 50,000

taking into account having to sell it on again in the future, which am i best going for?

Go for whichever one is the better car. The low mileage but older one might only have been used for short trips which causes all sorts of trouble. The higher mileage newer one might have spent much of its life at 70mph on the motorway, which is an easy life for a car.
All things being equal I’d buy the newer one.
